Event Description:

In this 2 hour webinar, participants will learn about the importance of identifying emotions that may trigger anger and develop strategies that can help individuals to cope with their emotions in constructive ways. This will be explored from the lens of cognitive behavioural theory. Hence, participants will learn how to integrate elements of cognitive behavioural theory in practice to identify upsetting emotions, cognitive distortions and unhelpful behaviours. Moreover, this approach will help participants to honor individuals’ needs to act in respectful ways towards others. Participants will further be equipped with knowledge on how to work effectively with resistance and to build rapport and engagement with individuals who struggle with managing emotions that may trigger anger.

Participants with learn:

  • How to address triggers, cognitive distortions and unhelpful behaviours using cognitive behaviour therapy
  • How to build rapport and engagement with individuals who struggle with managing emotions that may trigger anger
  • How to work with resistance during the counselling process
  • How to develop strategies that can help individuals to cope with their emotions in constructive ways

About the Presenter: Fiona Edwards is Ph.D. candidate

She holds a course directorship position at York University and work as a part-time professor at Seneca College. She also holds a Master’s of Social work and works as a Registered Social Worker.

Fiona has been providing individual, family and group counselling for the past 8 years in a number of settings. She is registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers and The Ontario Association of Social Workers. She is a Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor and a Registered safeTALK trainer, delivering training and workshops on mental health to the public.
