Working in the field of psychotherapy and counselling, it is inevitable you will run into a family law case sooner or later. Join us for an information session by two Toronto Family Law lawyers to learn how to best prepare yourselves for working within such a situation. This talk will address:

  1. Family Law 101 - General overview of what areas in family law affect clients of psychotherapists, including important terms, overview of the court process, court-ordered therapy and parenting coordinators.
  2. Family law issues that may raise red flags to psychotherapists when raised by their clients, including child protection matters, custody battles and expert witnesses.
  3. How family law courts are presently addressing mental health issues.
  4. Rules of evidence applying to psychotherapists including disclosure and confidentiality issues.

Speaker Biographies:

David Frenkel is a lawyer at the Halpern Law Group practicing exclusively in family law for over 12 years and dealing with various issues including custody, access, support and property division. 

Nicole Fedorovsky is a lawyer at the Halpern Law Group graduating from York University in 2014 and obtaining her law degree from Queen’s University in 2018. Nicole has a keen interest in family law and also has worked at the Attorney General’s Family Responsibility Office.
