Description:

While historically the adoption of online therapy has been slow, digital platforms have gained momentum over the years. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly accelerated this shift, as social distancing measures forced therapists to transition to virtual settings. This rapid adoption raised new ethical considerations around confidentiality, consent, and professional conduct in online spaces.

This session will cover key points from Section H, "Use of Electronic and Other Technologies," of the CCPA Code of Ethics, providing an introduction to the context and delivery of online counseling. Participants will explore the advantages and difficulties of using various digital technologies in professional practice, including the challenges of ensuring confidentiality and security in a virtual setting.

The session will also address the potential ethical pitfalls related to social media and other online communication platforms, guiding therapists on how to manage their personal and professional online presence. By the end of the session, participants will gain practical strategies for maintaining professional boundaries, ethical conduct, and client trust when providing online therapy.
