Event Overview:

Artificial intelligence and digitally mediated tools are entering mental health care at a pace that increasingly outstrips the ethical, clinical, and governance frameworks available to guide their use. As AI-enabled documentation, assessment, and clinical support tools become increasingly normalized, practitioners are being required to make ethical and practice decisions in advance of established standards or regulatory clarity.

This presentation addresses emerging clinical and ethical tensions associated with AI-supported care, with particular attention to equity, informed consent, data governance, and the preservation of therapeutic relationships.

Standardized and data-driven systems will be considered in relation to their potential to reproduce structural inequities and reshape clinical decision-making processes. Rather than focusing on technological adoption, the session examines practical questions currently arising in everyday practice and introduces applied approaches clinicians can use when encountering digital tools in clinical environments. Discussion will include vendor evaluation considerations, consent and cross-border data implications, and strategies for maintaining clinical judgment within technology-mediated care.

The session situates AI within established principles of ethical and relationship-centred practice, supporting informed engagement with evolving digital realities in mental health care.
