Description:

Decolonizing Our “Shared History”: Remembering Our Place and Purpose is an engaging workshop that deepens our understanding of what colonization is and how it’s impacted the way we engage with ourselves and the world around us. Learn an Indigenous world view of a living history through the epistemology of story telling, interactive conversation and aspect of being principles (seeing, being, knowing and doing). Facilitators Amanda and Strength Dale of Six Nations of the Grand River will share the way ongoing genocide has further divided Indigenous peoples and our allies from their own identities and connections to their ancestral knowledge and lands. Most importantly how we can all work together moving forward in decolonizing and un-colonizing our work as wellness practitioners personally and professionally.

Biography:

Amanda and Strength Dale of Six Nations Ohsweken are co-founders of Bear Waters Gathering, an Indigenous Education and Wellness land-based organization located within 85 acres of forest in the heart of Muskoka. Amanda has a master’s in social work and Strength is a graduate of the Bachelor of Adult Education. They are Indigenous trauma informed (w)holistic wellness counselling practitioners, consultants, and curricula developers.
