About The Presenter:

Mego Nerses holds a Master’s degree in Counselling from the University of Ottawa and is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Additionally, he is a Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).

Based in Ottawa, Mego has a private practice where he provides psychotherapy services in English, Arabic, and Armenian. Alongside his clinical work, he serves as a seasonal professor at Algonquin College, where he teaches courses on mental health and addiction. His scholarly contributions include peer-reviewed articles and book chapters focusing on counselling, the coming-out process, and trauma experienced by LGBTQ+ refugees and newcomers in Canada.

Mego has delivered workshops and conducted training sessions at both national and international levels to organizations working with refugees and addressing the mental health challenges faced by LGBTQI+ and SOGIE refugees and asylum seekers. With over a decade of experience conducting immigration and asylum evaluations for the Canadian Immigration Courts, he is extensively trained in asylum and immigration evaluations.  Mego offers continuous consultations and training sessions for clinicians on conducting immigration evaluations.

In recognition of his commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ refugees and asylum seekers, Mego Nerses received the 2017 Humanitarian Award from the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
