As many of you know, the Federation of Associations for Counselling Therapists in Manitoba (FACT MB) has formally submitted an application for regulation, which is currently under review by the Minister of Health. This session is an opportunity to receive a clear update, ask questions, and better understand how regulation connects to public protection, professional recognition, and system-level change in the context of Manitoba’s mental health and addictions crisis.

This session is being organized by Olga Shmelova, Regional Director for Manitoba, and will be facilitated by:

Melody Newcomb, Chair of FACT MB
Kathy Offet-Gartner, Provincial Advocacy Lead, National CCPA Office

Together, we will explore:

what professional regulation is (and what it is not),
why regulation is important for public safety and professional accountability,
how regulation supports counsellors and psychotherapists in their work, and
where Manitoba is currently positioned in the regulatory process.

There will be time for questions and discussion, and no prior knowledge of regulation is required. This session is intended to be informative, accessible, and grounded in the realities of practice in Manitoba.
