Description:

Slowly but surely, mental health practitioners and consumers are waking up to the paternalistic and oppressive aspects of traditional mental health care. The mistaken assumption of therapists "having it all together" is slowly crumbling now that we are admitting we are, in fact, humans. Jennifer Hollinshead, CCS will facilitate an informed and solution focused conversation on providing anti-oppressive supervision to therapists with diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health struggles. In this circle of practice, we will be debunking myths, normalising difficult topics (including suicidal ideation, psychiatric hospitalisation, addiction recovery) and finding ways to weave accountability and safety into supervision relationships. Jennifer continues to offer feminist therapy, supervision, and education because if it's not feminist, it's not therapy.

Presenter:

Jennifer Hollinshead is the founder and clinical director of Peak Resilience, an intersectional feminist trauma therapy practice in BC and Ontario. She has worked in the psychotherapy field for almost 17 years and the longer she practices, the more feminist she gets. She's a counsellor, clinical supervisor providing supervision of supervision, and alternative therapy practice owner who won BC Businesses' 40 under 40 in 2021. Jennifer continues to evolve and collaborate with leaders in the field to resist harmful oppressive forces not only in the world, but in our profession. She believes clinical supervisors can collaborate with marginalised and/or younger clinicians to ensure that our profession benefits all humans, animals, plants and the entire planet as we enter into a climate emergency.
