Event Overview:

This online, one-day introductory workshop is designed to offer a conceptual framework for best-practice clinical supervision.

Target participants are those who are interested in contributing in a supervisory capacity to the professional preparation of pre- service students (who are engaged in practicum and/or internship as components of formal study) and/or the continued professional growth of in-service professionals (who may be seeking professional registration/licensure).

Employing a combination of didactic and interactive components, the workshop provides broad brushstrokes of the concepts and considerations salient to the practice of clinical supervision.

The workshop content is based on the premise that before we may profitably seek answers, we need to know which questions to ask. The workshop aims to pique participant interest in pursuing further training in clinical supervision as a specialty area of practice, perhaps via completion of CCPA’s graduate level course in clinical supervision.

Learning Outcomes:

Understand the similarities and differences between counselling and clinical supervision
Clarify the differences between clinical and administrative supervision and how to manage dual roles
Identify the roles and responsibilities of clinical supervisors and supervisees
Examine three broad types of clinical supervision orientation (models)
Outline the developmental levels of the IDM Model
Study the Discrimination Model
Organize supervision through documentation and recordkeeping
Delve into the agenda for the first session
Explore ethical and legal issues related to clinical supervision
Apply learning to case studies

Presenters:

Blythe Shepard, Ph.D., CCS is of British and Kanien'kehá:ka ancestry, a professor at the University of Lethbridge, and co-editor of the Clinical Supervision of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Profession.

Lori Rudniski, M.Ed (Psych) CCC, CCS is the director of a long-term counselling centre, instructor at the University of Manitoba and a CCS. She provides supervision for practicing counsellors and for university practicum students.
