Webinar Description:

Description: In recent years, the Sixties Scoop has come to the attention of Canadians as another colonial practice that has had a negative impact on the mental health and well-being of Indigenous individuals, families, and communities. In this webinar, we will explore issues such as cultural loss, isolation, identity confusion, and how mental health practitioners can support Sixties Scoop survivors in culturally safe ways.

Presenter: Andrea Currie

Andrea Currie is Métis from Manitoba and has worked for 15 years as a therapist and community wellness worker in Mi`kmaq communities. In addition to providing individual, couple, family, and group counselling, Andrea works extensively with Residential School Survivors and their descendants. Andrea is a Past President of the Indigenous Circle Chapter of CCPA, the Nova Scotia Director on the National Board of CCPA, and teaches a course on Indigenous Mental Health in the M.Ed. in the Counselling program at Acadia University.
