April 2025 marks Counselling Psychotherapy Month, a significant occasion to reflect on the progress and development of mental health care over the past 25 years. Hosted by the Private Practitioner Chapter Panel, this year’s theme, Private Practice Pulse: 25 Years of Mental Health, invites practitioners to explore the evolution of mental health support in private practice, the challenges encountered, and the innovative strategies that have shaped the field.


Outcomes for Attendees:

1. Understanding the Evolution of Private Practice:
Gain insight into the changes in mental health care within private practice over the last 25 years, including advancements in treatment approaches, client engagement, and service delivery.

2. Exploring Challenges and Solutions:
Discuss the key challenges faced by mental health professionals in private practice, such as evolving client needs, business management, and maintaining professional development, while exploring innovative solutions and strategies.

3. Celebrating the Resilience of Mental Health Professionals:
Reflect on the dedication and impact of CCPA mental health professionals who have contributed to shaping the field, offering both practical insights and inspiration for current and future practitioners.

4. Building a Community of Practice: Membership Engagement
Engage in discussions that foster networking and support among professionals in the field, strengthening the sense of community and collaboration in the private practice environment.

5. Future Directions in Mental Health Care:
Gain a forward-looking perspective on the direction of private practice in mental health, including trends in telehealth, integrated care models, and emerging challenges in the mental health field.

Biography:

Corrine Hendricken-Eldershaw:
Corrine Hendricken-Eldershaw is a seasoned counsellor with 25 years of leadership experience in education, health, and counselling psychotherapy, grounded in humanistic psychology. Her compassionate approach integrates evidence-based techniques to support clients' personal growth and resilience. Corrine teaches Ecopsychology at the University of Prince Edward Island and serves on the board and executive of the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), where she is the liaison to the Climate Informed Chapter. With past leadership including Provincial Manager at Red Cross PEI, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of PEI, creator of Career Development Services, and presently - CT at UPEI ADHD Clinic. she has made significant contributions to the field, including chairing CCPA's Ethics Committee and advocating for counselling regulation. Her dedication to the profession has been recognized with several awards, including the 2022 Emeritus Private Practitioner Award and the Counselling Psychotherapist of the Year Award at the 2024 CCPA National Conference on PEI. Outside of her professional life, Corrine enjoys spending time in nature, traveling, and cherishing her family, including her husband, chosen daughter/son-in-law, and three granddaughters.


Linda Storm:
Linda is a dynamic psychodynamic psychotherapist who brings 30 years of business and technology experience into private practice. With a formative background in corporate and technology sectors, she is a positive disruptor who integrates modern business strategies and tech‐driven solutions with evidence‐based, humanistic care. This innovative approach enhances accessibility and effectiveness, particularly for neurodivergent adults facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and PTSD.

Paul Yeung:

Dr. Paul Yeung is a certified counsellor and president of the Private Practitioners Chapter. He teaches in the Faculty of Education at Simon Fraser University. He specializes in Career Counselling, Multicultural Counselling, Multilingual and Literacy Education, and Health Literacy and Public Health.
