This interactive workshop will introduce participants to the field of psychological trauma and PTSD as they relate to working with military and veteran populations. Dr. Black will cover the basics of the Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma Treatment, explore conceptual issues related to diagnosis of PTSD and address the most pertinent issues for working with military and veteran populations who have experienced trauma. Participants will leave with a greater understanding of principles and practices for working with psychological trauma in general and important knowledge for working with military and veteran populations in particular.

Dr. Black is a Registered Psychologist and Associate Professor of Counselling Psychology at the University of Victoria. He specializes in treating PTSD in both military and civilian populations, group counselling, and clinical supervision. Tim is the former National Clinical Director for the Veterans Transition Network and a founding partner. He co-developed the Veterans Transition Program (a 10-day residential transition program for military veterans) with colleagues at UBC and has been a professor in the graduate counselling psychology program at UVic since 2003.
