Event Overview

Manitoba is in the grip of a mental health and addictions crisis — one that continues to devastate families, communities, and futures. We are witnessing the human cost of a system that isn’t just overwhelmed — it’s out of sync with the real needs of the people it’s meant to serve. As counsellors and psychotherapists, we carry the weight of this crisis session after session, often without a voice in shaping the very strategies meant to solve it. This town hall is an opportunity to step back from the daily grind, reconnect with colleagues, and explore what we need to thrive as a profession and as people.

This full-day CCPA Manitoba Town Hall is more than a meeting — it’s a space for connection, healing, professional development, and collective strategy.

MORNING SESSION: Professional Development Workshop

De-pathologizing Counselling: Reclaiming Culture, Ceremony, and Connection as Core to Healing

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

We’ll explore how modern counselling and psychotherapy can evolve beyond clinical pathologizing by returning to sacred, ancestral healing practices and seeing a person as a holistic spiritual being. Together, we’ll look at ways to respectfully and meaningfully integrate cultural, spiritual, and ceremonial approaches into therapeutic work — especially for communities deeply affected by trauma, systemic oppression, and the addictions crisis.

This workshop will provide:

  • Practical, culturally grounded frameworks for your practice
  • A critical lens on western legacies in mental health
  • Space for dialogue, reflection, and professional growth

AFTERNOON SESSION: Conversation Café

Reclaiming the Narrative: Building a Unified Response to Manitoba’s Mental Health and Addictions Crisis

2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

In the second half of the day, we’ll gather in a Conversation Café style: small rotating groups with guided questions, each hosted by a facilitator. This ensures every voice is heard and every perspective contributes to our shared understanding. It’s about listening, sharing, and collecting insights that will guide how we move forward together.
