Resolving Inner Conflicts: Techniques, Practice and Precautions

“Mixed feelings”; “confusion”, not being able to make a decision, “ambivalence” around an issue, and opposing messages from clients who appear to think or feel opposing things: a common and crucial part of working in the therapeutic relationship. Therapists often find themselves unsure about how to approach and/or help resolve issues that seem to be all over the map, not knowing what technique they might use in the Here-and-Now setting of the therapy session and feeling prone to getting stuck. Participants will be presented with a background and important concepts on the theme of inner-conflicts & precautions, followed by a practical demonstration, followed by a discussion period and Q&A. The presentation will last for 2 hours.

And has been approved for two CEC credits

Learning Outcomes / Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand and conceptualize mixed / incongruent messages
  • Organize aspects of presented issues in a coherent manner
  • Help clients get in touch with and process inner conflicts
  • Facilitate the resolution process of an inner conflict
  • Identify progress and reinforce it
  • Pay close attention to certain precautions in conducting this process
