Description:

The climate crisis is reshaping our world, and its mental health implications are becoming more and more apparent. In honour of Earth Day, this C&P Month session invites therapists to explore the evolving role of climate-informed counselling in supporting individuals through the mental and emotional challenges triggered by climate change. Drawing inspiration from the CIC Chapter's Climate-Informed Counselling in the 21st Century document, this session will guide professionals in integrating climate awareness into their therapeutic practices.

The session will delve into the historical context of climate distress, its growing relevance in modern therapy, and the importance of acknowledging the intersectionality of climate change with issues such as colonialism, inequality, and racial injustice. Attendees will be encouraged to reflect on the impacts of environmental stressors on clients and learn practical strategies to create a supportive, resilient space for those affected.

As we explore the journey through therapy, we’ll focus on adapting therapeutic techniques, building client resilience, and fostering hope in the face of climate uncertainty. This session aims to provide therapists with the tools to understand better, empathize, and support clients navigating a world in flux. Join us in this crucial conversation on how we can shape therapy practices for the future, rooted in climate awareness and compassionate care.
