The Saint Paul University Mini Research Conference on Mental Health and Innovation brings together leading researchers, academics, clinicians, policymakers, and advocates to explore the latest developments in understanding, treating, and supporting mental health across diverse populations. This multidisciplinary gathering will feature interactive workshops that highlight cutting-edge scientific findings, innovative therapeutic approaches, and the integration of technology in mental health care.

The conference will serve as a platform for collaboration, encouraging the exchange of knowledge between academia, mental healthcare providers, students, community organizations, and members of the public. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about original research and evidence-based interventions, engage in critical dialogue on global mental health challenges, strengthen their role as both researchers and practitioners in shaping a more compassionate and effective mental health ecosystem.

Four separate workshops will be provided at the conference:

Workshop # 1 (8:45 AM-10:15 AM): Meaning Mindset Theory: A Transdiagnostic Approach to Mental Health Promotion and Intervention for Children

Presenter: Dr. Laura Armstrong

This practical workshop introduces clinicians, educators, and mental health professionals to Meaning Mindset Theory, a transdiagnostic approach from Positive Psychology that supports well-being across diverse populations by fostering a sense of meaning.

Workshop # 2 (10:30 AM-12:00 PM): Navigating with Unpleasant Eco-Emotions and Exploring Healthy Ways to Cope with Them

Presenter: Dr. Christian Bellehumeur

This workshop explores the paradoxical relationship between nature and mental health—how climate change provokes anxiety, yet nature offers powerful healing. Drawing on clinical insights and research, it examines eco-emotions like eco-anxiety and introduces ecopsychological approaches. Participants will learn nature-based techniques to support emotional regulation and resilience. The session empowers therapists to integrate natural environments into existing practices for greater therapeutic impact.

Workshop # 3 (1:00 PM-2:30 PM): Fearless Leadership or Workplace Toxicity? Clinical Insights on Psychopathic Traits

Presenter: Dr. Guillaume Durand

This interactive session examines how psychopathic traits can show up adaptively and maladaptively in the workplace. Participants will explore how traits like fearlessness and dominance may fuel success or cause harm. Through case work and discussion, clinicians will learn to assess these traits and their effects on workplace dynamics. Practical tools and ethical strategies will be offered to help clients harness strengths without harming others.

Workshop # 4 (2:45 PM-4:15 PM): Attention-Deficit and Hyperactive Disorder and Psychotherapy

Presenter: Dr. Yuanyuan Jiang

Individuals with ADHD often face challenges with attention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, which can affect focus, time management, and communication. They may also experience emotional dysregulation, loneliness, and low self-esteem. This workshop explores a better understanding of ADHD, its challenges and strengths, and strategies to support individuals in both life and psychotherapy. A strengths-based, trauma-informed, and compassion-focused approach will be emphasized through experiential learning and role play.

The conference will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 8:30 AM-4:30 PM (EST) at Saint Paul University (223 Main Street, Ottawa, Ontario K1S 1C4). Recordings will be made available for members participating virtually. A networking event will follow the closing remarks from 4:30-6:30 PM. Members joining the live-stream will be welcomed to stay connected and participate in a live Q&A session on CCPA’s latest advocacy campaign. Updates on nationwide regulatory activities will also be provided.
