In this session, facilitated by the Career Paths program staff from Douglas College, you will learn about the mental health impact of unemployment on recent immigrants to Canada. You will also gain an in-depth view of how an employment counselling program adapts itself to support newcomers, and how such programs can be valuable partners for your clients.


Meet Your Presenter:

Sepideh Zabihi is a passionate Career Development Professional. She has a Career Development Practitioner certificate with over six years of experience supporting newcomers through various government initiatives. For the past three years, she has been part of the Douglas College Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants program, where she constantly finds inspiration and growth through connecting with individuals from around the world. She is committed to fostering inclusive and empowering environments where people can thrive both professionally and personally.

Katy Kitainik has been a career coach with the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants program at Douglas College for the past six years. She brings a diverse background in career counselling, coaching, facilitation, and case management, along with experience in both adult and secondary education. Katy holds a Master’s degree in Linguistics, a Career Development Practitioner Certificate, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Having experienced immigration twice herself, she brings deep empathy and cultural humility to her work with newcomers navigating employment and identity transitions.
